Muizenberg – Camps Bay: O2O_Entry Form_April 2017_1

Ocean2Ocean is a guided mountain trail run from Muizenberg Beach to Camps Bay via the False Bay Mountains, Silvermine Nature Reserve and Table Mountain. This route is also run in reverse at times.

This is a pack run with limited place. (30 max) and follows a spectacular rollercoaster route through the Cape Peninsula’s mountain chain. This is not a race but runners do need to be fit and capable of running on technical terrain for 12 hours or more. There are frequent breaks for views and snacks and two aid stations en-route, at Constantia Nek and Silvermine.

Some consider this the trail runner’s version of the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon, Cape Town’s popular and scenic 56km road run, we call it 50km of Cape Town’s finest.

** Puffer Qualifier
The organising Committee of the PuFfer (Peninsula Ultra Fun Run 75km) will accept the O2O day run as a qualifying ultra for those participants who complete the full ultra distance.

Start Time:
5.30am – Runners are requested to be at the start by 5.10.am for the briefing.

Starting Point:
Parking lot at Muizenberg water slides.

Roughly 65% runnable, no real exposure, pack-run

Duration and Distance:
About 50 km: Estimated running time – in excess of 12 hours.

Note: This is an estimate and depends on the fitness and size of the group, weather
conditions and other variables on the day.

Weather conditions for some of the previous years’ runs have been very hot and also icy, wet, windy and misty. Even though we will be running as a group, each runner must be completely self-sufficient and ensure that he/she carries the following items:

  • Proper hydration pack/ bag capable of holding a minimum of 2 liters of water and big enough for other equipment (beanie, gloves, tights)
  • Water / energy drink / munchies
(enough for in excess of 12 hours)
  • Foul weather gear  (water proof)
  • Warm top  / windproof shell
  • Hat / cap / beanie / buff / gloves
  • Personal medication (if required)\
  • Torch / headlamp
  • Whistle & Space blanket
  • Sun block
  • Cell phone with fully charged battery

There will be at least one first-aid kit with the group but it is recommended you carry some basic requirements for your personal use.

Please be aware that this is a long day over a very challenging course and you need to be fit and confident of completing the distance. If it is apparent that you do not have the necessary degree of fitness or the required equipment the organisers may ask you to reconsider continuing either at Silvermine or Constantia Nek.

NB: There will be a kit check at the start. (Don’t pitch if you don’t have the necessary equipment!)

Furthermore, you will be expected to sign a Legal Liability Waiver at the start stating that you take part entirely at your own risk, and that neither you nor your estate, dependents, family or any other person will sue the organisers, leader, volunteers or any other person for any illness, injury, death, loss or damage to property, which may occur before, during or after the Ocean2Ocean.
